The trap width size is defined in inches, and the values are "0.003", "0.005", "0.009".
The Black brush sizes are by 0.002 inch wider.
The abbreviations for the TrapSets naming would be 003, 005, 009.
The image trapping cases define image to linework trapping rules. The values can be "All special cases only with spot-to-image
direction into spot" (abbreviation img-s); and "All special cases with spot-to-image direction into spot AND trap centered
other image-to-linework cases" (abbreviation img-c).
The tint color reduction can be default reduction values 85% for M and C, 80% for Y, 100% for K (abbreviation tcr-y);
or all 100% - no reduction (abbreviation tcr-n). The "no reduction" setting is useful when traps between pure colors should not
be screened.
The vignette trapping rule can be on (abbreviation vig-y) or off (abbreviation vig-n). Enable this setting if you want to
force vignettes trapping centerline to other objects. When it is disabled vignettes are trapped with general rule.
Some of the other trapping parameters are:
Center Trap % is 0.5%, which means rare centered trapping cases;
Miter Trapping is on.
For example, the 003_img-s_tcr-n_vig-n.tio TrapSet defines:
trap brush width of 0.003 inch;
image trapping is only special case (yellow, black and spot to image);
tint color reduction is 100%;
vignette trapping is off.
no-trap.tio
this is the TrapSet, which you can use to force output through any of I-Trap plugins (e.g. I-Tone, I-PDFxM, I-Jpeg, etc.)
and generate untrapped data of needed format.
Our experience with the customers shows that mostly the Trapset is
used "005_img-s_tcr-n_vig-n.tio" for different kinds of printing
output devices. This set includes 0.005 inch brush size, special
case image to linework trapping settings, no special case vignette
trapping and no trap color reduction.
However, some customers prefer to use smaller brush size, or disable
Yellow to image special case, or use special vignette trapping or
centerline trapping for images.
The packaging jobs require wider brushes and have some other specifics
too with dielines, metallics, etc.
That is why we deliver a collection of TrapSets in the installer and
allow a trial period with full I-Trap viewer functionality for all
the customers to be able to tune trapping parameters used on their
specific device.
They are encouraged to save those settings to their individual
trapset(s) and use for either interactive or automatic trapping.
Please feel free to share your personal experience with tuned trapping
parameters and send your individual TrapSets with the description of
your output device and explanation of your choice.
